About

I’m Anees Uddin, an interaction and user experience designer with multi-disciplinary skills across brand and identity design, UI and UX design, illustration, motion graphics, graphic, print and exhibition design with a proven track record of success in the technology sector. I freelance in the Birmingham and London areas.

I’ve always kept a keen interest in many types of design, right now I am really interested in how Architects and Interaction Designers are creating new ways in which people interact with real public spaces.

Background

I’ve been interested in design since my school days where I took and interest in product design, which I ended up reading at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design from where I graduated in 1998. After a short spell of freelance design of one form or another I got caught up in the dot.com bubble by being hired as a designer for my first technology company where I started to understand web and mobile technologies. I didn’t forget my other skills, such as illustration and branding having created the corporate ID’s for several employees as well as other companies. Ever since then I have been involved in the web one way or another. As the web matured, my interest within the technology realm became more diverse. Although I started off my career as a graphic designer, I felt it was only natural to re-use my product design background and delve into user experience design.

Experience

User Experience Design
This buzz-phrase has been around for a few years now and is essentially a combination of five major components: Information Architecture, Interaction Design, Usability Engineering, Visual Design and Prototyping. Throughout my career as a designer I have used all or any of these five components in any combination as an individual or part of a User Experience team. In the past deliverables have included: Navigation Patterns, Information Hierarchies, Wireframes, Storyboards, Layout Patterns, Usability plans, Style Guides, Mock Ups and UI Component Libraries.
Web Development
I started off learning HTML and CSS back in 1998 and still use it a lot today. nowadays along with php, javascript, AJAX mysql etc. Of course I have an interest in open-source. Like many other designers, I tend towards Frameworks such as Wordpress, Joomla, Jquery etc.
Graphic Design
I’m been using Photoshop since the good old days of the Apple Classic. That along with the rest of the Adobe Suite gives me all the tools I need to create illustrations, motion graphics, graphics, print and exhibition designs etc. I’ve been fortunate in that all of the people I have worked for in the past have been interested in utilizing these skill so I have managed to keep them up to date.
